Jewelry enthusiasts from around the world will have the rare opportunity to discover the extensive history of Greek jewelry through the Benaki Museum’s vast jewelry collections. In an exclusive arrangement with the museum, guests will be invited to visit the museum’s underground vaults and become jewelry conservators for a day, holding in their hands precious 19th century artifacts that are currently not on public display. A Treasure Trove of Jewelry will even let you meet an award-winning jewelry designer to dig deeper into the jewelry crafting tools and techniques.

Starting Point: Syntagma Square (opposite of Hotel Grande Bretagne)

10:00 – 10:15

Walk along Vasilissis Sofias Avenue to explore the elegant charm of the street where the Athenian elite once lived. The building & monuments create a neighborhood of administration and culture, a vibrant “open air museum” of architecture and sculpture.

10:15 – 10:45

Visit to the Benaki Museum for a themed-tour of the museum’s vast jewelry collection, from ancient through Byzantine and modern times.

10:45 – 11:00

Become a jewelry conservator for a day, by holding in your hands precious artifacts of the 19th century that are currently not on public display. The exclusive hands-on session will take place at the museum’s underground vaults.

11:00 – 11:30

Meet a De Beers Diamonds International Award jewelry designer winner who will join you at the Museum to explain the practice, history and many wonders of Greek jewelry art. The celebrated designer will delve into the time-honored techniques and tools she uses in crafting her own artistic creations, and even allow guests to view her work in person.
